Longtime ESPN broadcaster Michael Wilbon is taking an indefinite leave of absence from his duties on "Pardon The Interruption" and NBA coverage due to "multiple health issues."
Wilbon announced his departure from ESPN and ABC in a social media message on Monday, stating, "This isn’t retirement but it is a trip to the injured list." He acknowledged that he should have heeded earlier advice from medical professionals and colleagues, including "PTI" co-host Tony Kornheiser, who had observed "worrisome signs" in recent years.
"The bill has come due," Wilbon wrote, emphasizing that his struggles are solely health-related and not connected to alcohol or gambling. He expressed a desire to recover and return to the show to "sparring with Tony."
"Pardon The Interruption," a sports debate program co-hosted by Wilbon and Kornheiser, recently marked its 25th anniversary. Wilbon did not provide a specific timeline for his return to work, stating only that his goal is to feel significantly better and resume his broadcasting responsibilities.
