Michael Jordan's involvement in NBC Sports' basketball coverage is reportedly concluding after just one year, according to Front Office Sports. The reasons behind the expected end of his stint have not been revealed.

NBC Sports featured exclusive interviews with Jordan during its return to NBA coverage last season. This addition was initially met with anticipation, given Jordan's typically reserved approach to media engagements. However, fan excitement reportedly waned as it became clear Jordan would not be providing live analysis.

Instead, the network utilized pre-recorded sit-down interviews with Mike Tirico, which were segmented into clips for "MJ: Insights to Excellence." These segments did not always align with current NBA storylines.

Charles Barkley, a Hall of Famer and former teammate of Jordan's, criticized NBC for the format. "It's a bad look for NBC and it's just a bad look, plain and simple," Barkley stated in January. "They couldn't fly to Michael like once a month and do a new interview? That makes NBC look really bad, plain and simple."

Tirico defended the segments, highlighting the rarity of Jordan speaking publicly about the sport since his appearance in ESPN's "The Last Dance" documentary in 2020. Tirico described Jordan as "awesome" for the segments and acknowledged that while the format might not have been what everyone envisioned, it was preferable to not hearing from him at all. He also noted that the segments sparked conversation and that Jordan's voice continues to resonate.

Jordan, a six-time NBA champion, remains active in NBA circles as a minority owner of the Charlotte Hornets.
