Michael Jordan's 'Last Dance' Jersey Sells for Record $14 Million
The autographed jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals set a new benchmark for basketball memorabilia.
A Michael Jordan jersey worn during his "Last Dance" season has sold for $14 million (£10.6 million), establishing a new world record for basketball memorabilia. The Chicago Bulls jersey, autographed by Jordan, was worn during game two of the 1998 NBA Finals, the same season he concluded his tenure with the Bulls by securing his sixth NBA Championship. He scored a game-high 37 points in that particular game.
Miami real estate investor Ron Firman acquired the jersey through a private sale facilitated by Hunt Auctions. David Hunt, president of Hunt Auctions, stated that Jordan's significance in the sports memorabilia market has elevated to an "elite asset class more typically reserved for iconic works of art."
This sale surpasses the previous record for a basketball item, which was a 2007-08 card featuring Jordan and Kobe Bryant that sold for $12.9 million (£9.8 million) last year. Even more recently, a different jersey worn by Jordan from game three of the 1998 Finals, though not autographed, fetched $12.3 million (£9.3 million) just two weeks prior.
The only piece of sports memorabilia to have sold for more is the jersey worn by baseball legend Babe Ruth during the 1932 World Series, which commanded $24.1 million (£18.2 million) in 2024.
