Michael Jordan's 1998 Finals Jersey Fetches Record $14 Million

A game-worn, autographed Michael Jordan jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals has sold for a record-breaking $14 million. The sale, announced by auction house Hunt Auctions, marks the highest price ever paid for a single piece of basketball memorabilia.

Ron Firman, a Florida real-estate investor, was the buyer of the red road jersey. Jordan wore this specific jersey during Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals, in which the Chicago Bulls defeated the Utah Jazz. That series concluded with the Bulls securing their sixth championship of the decade, completing their second three-peat. Jordan had previously led the team to three consecutive titles from 1991-1993.

During the 1998 Finals, Jordan was awarded Finals MVP, averaging 33.5 points per game against the Jazz. The 1998 season is often referred to as Jordan's "Last Dance" with the Bulls, as he retired following that championship. He later returned to play for the Washington Wizards from 2001 to 2003.

The record-setting sale places Jordan's jersey among the most valuable sports memorabilia. While it is the most expensive basketball item, a game-worn Babe Ruth jersey from the 1932 World Series previously sold for $24.12 million in 2024, holding the record for any sports jersey.
