Michael Carrick Seeks Turnaround Amidst Manchester United's Struggles
Under-pressure manager reveals conversations with Sir Alex Ferguson and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as team faces Bournemouth.
Michael Carrick, the current manager of Manchester United, is reportedly seeking guidance from club legends Sir Alex Ferguson and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he navigates a challenging period for the team. Manchester United is experiencing its worst league start in 40 years, with a recent heavy defeat in Europe compounding the pressure on Carrick.
Carrick confirmed that he maintains regular contact with both Ferguson and Solskjaer. "I speak to both of them quite regularly, to be honest," Carrick stated. "There's nothing in particular from that. I'm close to both of them and we do have regular conversations. It's nothing different this week."
The manager is facing intense scrutiny ahead of the upcoming match against Bournemouth at Old Trafford. He issued an apology to the fans following the club's significant loss in Como, which marked their heaviest defeat in Europe since 1994. In a pre-match press conference, Carrick emphasized the importance of upholding the club's historical standards, calling for a collective effort to put Manchester United first.
Despite concerns about potential dressing-room unrest, highlighted by critical interviews from captain Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez, Carrick expressed unwavering confidence in his players. "I definitely trust them. One hundred per cent I trust them," he asserted. "It wasn't a very good night (in Como) at all for so many reasons, we all know that. I think that's pretty obvious. We'll be a different team on Sunday. We have to be a different team on Sunday."
Carrick addressed his extended opening statement at the press conference, explaining it stemmed from his understanding of the club's significance. "Because I understand the situation, and I understand my position and I know what this football club means to so, so many people," he said. "The history doesn't give you the right to keep winning. Teams that win earn the right to win. So it's important that we draw inspiration from history and the past of what's gone on. But our responsibility is to carry that forward, and it's so important to me that we do that."
