The New York Mets have responded to Daniil Medvedev's viral U.S. Open chewing gum habit by sending him a massive bucket containing 300 pieces of Double Bubble. Medvedev, the 2021 U.S. Open champion, drew attention during his first-round victory when cameras captured him going through a dozen pieces of gum during changeovers.

During a post-match interview, Medvedev explained his frequent gum consumption, stating his mouth was dry and water was not providing relief. He also joked that he "probably watch[es] too much baseball, because for whatever reason, they all chew chewing gum."

The MLB club, located near the U.S. Open grounds, sent the gift to the tennis star on Monday. The package included a note from the Mets wishing Medvedev luck in his second-round match. Medvedev reacted with amusement to the gesture, exclaiming, "Bubble gum! No way."

He estimated the 300 pieces would be "enough for the whole tournament even if I go all the way." Medvedev is set to face American Sebastian Gorzny in his next match.

Last year, Medvedev was eliminated in the first round of the tournament. He is seeking to regain his championship form at Flushing Meadows.
