Mets reliever Jefry Yan prematurely executed his signature jump celebration during the ninth inning of the team's 5-4 victory over the Nationals on Saturday night at Citi Field. The pitch in question was initially called a ball, leading Yan to challenge the umpire's call. Though his challenge was unsuccessful, Yan eventually earned the strikeout he was anticipating.

Two pitches after the unsuccessful challenge, Yan struck out Nasim Nuñez swinging on a slider to end the inning. Yan then performed his jump celebration again, adding an extra flourish. Mets play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen remarked on the earlier premature celebration, stating, "Now that was funny," before acknowledging the successful strikeout with, "Now Yan can celebrate."

Yan was credited with the win as the Mets staged a comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning, with Francisco Lindor's walk-off single securing their eighth win in the last eleven games. The Mets have shown recent success despite trading away players at the deadline, which opened up opportunities in the bullpen for Yan.

A 29-year-old rookie, Yan has allowed only one run in five appearances. His strikeout celebration, which involves a jump followed by a stomp, has gained attention. Yan has previously stated his intention to celebrate his way, even after facing boos from Guardians fans in Cleveland during his debut. However, his Citi Field debut on Saturday was met with an embrace from Mets fans.

Yan pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out three batters. He performed four celebration dances in total during the game, including the one that occurred before the final out of the inning.
