The New York Mets have called up left-handed pitcher Jefry Yan, who has gained attention for his distinctive strikeout celebrations, including doing splits and screaming. Yan's promotion occurred after the MLB trade deadline on August 3, following a strong performance in the minor leagues during the 2026 season.

The Mets currently sit at the bottom of the National League East standings and are expected to miss the postseason for the second consecutive year. Yan, 29, joined the Mets organization in August 2025 after previous stints in the minor league systems of the Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, and Colorado Rockies.

During his 2026 season, Yan demonstrated significant pitching ability alongside his celebratory antics. In 26.2 innings with Double-A Binghamton, he recorded a 3.71 ERA and struck out 45 batters. Moving up to Triple-A Syracuse, Yan continued his success, posting a 2-1 record with a 2.40 ERA over 15.0 innings, allowing only six hits and striking out 32 batters.

Yan's unique on-mound personality, which includes jumping, performing splits, screaming, and hitting the ground, has drawn comparisons to exhibition baseball teams. Despite the theatrical displays, his pitching statistics indicate a capable performer, and his call-up provides a potential point of interest for Mets fans amidst the team's disappointing season.
