New York Mets first baseman Jared Young left Thursday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies after a collision with teammate Nolan McLean resulted in an apparent head injury. The incident occurred in the top of the sixth inning at Citi Field.
Philadelphia's Justin Crawford hit a slow ground ball down the first base line. As Young prepared to field the ball, McLean also converged on it. The two players became off-balance, and McLean's knee struck Young's head. Young immediately fell to the ground and remained there for several minutes as trainers attended to him.
Members of both teams appeared stunned by the collision. Young was removed from the field on a cart, acknowledging the crowd with a thumbs-up as he departed.
McLean, who appeared shaken by the play, remained in the game after a discussion with interim manager Andy Green. The Mets were trailing 1-0 with runners on first and third and two outs at the time of the play. McLean ended the inning by striking out Garrett Stubbs. Mark Vientos entered the game to replace Young at first base.
