The New York Mets have acquired relief pitcher Matt Seelinger from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for cash considerations. The transaction adds another arm to the Mets' organizational depth as the team continues play in the latter half of the season.
Seelinger, 31, has played for Triple-A Toledo this season, posting a 3.89 earned run average over 27 appearances. A career minor leaguer, Seelinger is a Long Island native and has previously been part of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays, San Francisco Giants, and Philadelphia Phillies organizations.
