Mecole Hardman, the wide receiver who scored the winning touchdown in Super Bowl LVIII and subsequently gained attention for his interactions with Taylor Swift, has been released by the Buffalo Bills. The move comes ahead of the 2026 NFL season, leaving his professional career in jeopardy.

Hardman, 28, has faced challenges since his pivotal overtime score in Las Vegas, which secured his third Super Bowl ring with the Kansas City Chiefs. After suffering a season-ending knee injury in 2024, he joined the Green Bay Packers the following year but did not make the active roster. He signed with the Bills and played two games last season, entering the current training camp competing for a roster spot, primarily as a kick returner.

However, with the emergence of running back Ray Davis in the kick returner role during the preseason, the Bills decided to release Hardman. This decision casts significant doubt on his future in the league as he seeks another opportunity.

Hardman's connection with Swift began when she celebrated his Super Bowl heroics by watching a livestream from his girlfriend, Chariah Gordon. Swift later approached Hardman on the field after the game to offer congratulations. Gordon, Hardman's fiancée, also became friendly with Swift, with the two posing for photos in their suite during game days. Gordon described Swift as "one of the sweetest people ever."

Hardman has shared anecdotes about his early encounters with Swift, recalling how he surprised her with card tricks. "I got a few tricks I can do with the cards — and she was like, 'This is crazy,' and every time she sees me she talk about it," Hardman said on "The Pivot Podcast."

He also offered a glimpse into the relationship between Swift and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce during the early stages. Hardman described Kelce as a "cool dude" and Swift as "so cool," noting that their connection felt natural. "To us, it wasn't really nothing because it's Trav, bro. If anybody's gonna do that, it's Trav that's gonna get that," he said.

Hardman has previously joked that he tried to maintain a casual demeanor around Swift before realizing the significance of the encounter, thinking, "Damn, that's Taylor Swift."
