Max Verstappen has agreed to a contract extension with Red Bull, committing his future to the team until the 2030 Formula One season. This new deal is anticipated to be the final contract of his career.
The agreement ends widespread speculation about the four-time world champion's next move. Verstappen had engaged in discussions with McLaren, and had also been linked with Mercedes in recent years. He will continue with the team where he has achieved significant success.
The negotiations for the extension were reportedly contentious at times. Representatives for Verstappen were seeking a salary increase, while Red Bull executives were initially hesitant to improve upon his reported £60 million per year contract. A compromise has been reached to retain their leading driver.
This decision follows talks Verstappen held with McLaren CEO Zak Brown several months ago. The precise financial and performance clauses of the new agreement have not yet been disclosed. Verstappen is currently contracted with Red Bull through the end of the 2028 season.
