Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has dismissed concerns about soreness in his right throwing elbow, which had drawn attention following the team's recent victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Stafford was seen with ice wrapped around his elbow after the game, leading to speculation about his health.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Stafford lightened the mood by joking about his age and the attention his elbow received. "You guys have been blind," Stafford said. "I feel like I’ve been icing my arm every day out here walking around. That’s on you guys." He added, "Listen, I’m 38 years old trying to keep up with these young bucks. A little bit of soreness and stuff that is not uncommon this time of year."
Stafford emphasized that the soreness has not impacted his performance or availability, stating, "I haven’t missed a rep at practice. I haven’t missed a rep in a game and I feel good. I’m not too worried about it."
His comments come as the Rams are grappling with a significant injury crisis. Head coach Sean McVay described the current season's injury epidemic as the worst he has experienced in his 10-year coaching career. The team recently lost cornerback Jaylen Watson for the season due to shoulder surgery, marking the third player lost for the year in the past two weeks.
Despite the team's struggles with injuries, Stafford's reassurances about his elbow provide a small measure of relief for the Rams as they navigate a challenging season.
