Massapequa Chiefs End Garden City's 68-Game Winning Streak

The nation's longest high school football winning streak has concluded after seven years, with the Massapequa Chiefs defeating the Garden City Bulls 21-14 at Hofstra University. The loss marks the end of Garden City's remarkable 68-game unbeaten streak.

Massapequa's victory was sealed by a crucial interception in the closing moments of the game, followed by a game-winning touchdown pass. "Give extended credit to them — they came out to play," said Massapequa's defensive captain Ryan Chabus regarding the interception. "I knew I had to make a play. That's what football players do. That's what three-time Long Island champions do."

Senior wide receiver Dylan Milio, who caught the decisive touchdown, described the team's focus leading up to the game. "It was definitely one of the closest games we've ever played in," Milio told The New York Post. "It meant a little more because now we could break history." He added that the team's excitement for the matchup overshadowed their academic attention.

With this win, Massapequa now holds the longest active winning streak in New York state, with 26 consecutive victories. Garden City had not lost a game since November 30, 2019, and had secured 10 consecutive Nassau County titles prior to this season.

Both schools have notable football legacies. Massapequa has produced NFL players like the Baldinger brothers (Brian, Gary, and Rich), and is also the hometown of actors Alec, Stephen, William, and Daniel Baldwin, as well as comedian Jerry Seinfeld. Garden City's notable alumni include former NFL punter Dave Jennings and former North Carolina running back Don McCauley.

The longest winning streak in high school football history belongs to De La Salle High School in California, which achieved 151 consecutive wins between 1992 and 2004.
