The University of Maryland has fired head football coach Mike Locksley, sources confirmed.

The decision follows a streak of five consecutive losses for the Terrapins. Their most recent defeat was at home against Rutgers.

Locksley's tenure with the Terrapins saw an overall record of 39-54. He initially joined the program as an interim coach in 2015 before rejoining in 2019. After a 3-9 record in his first full season, Locksley led the team to over .500 records from 2021 to 2023. However, the team has since gone 10-21.

Maryland will owe Locksley $4.9 million as part of his buyout, to be paid within a 60-day period.

Defensive coordinator Aazaar Abdul-Rahim has been appointed interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

Locksley's prior head-coaching experience includes a three-season stint with New Mexico from 2009 to 2011, where he compiled a 2-26 record. He also held assistant coaching positions at various other collegiate programs, including Towson State, the Naval Academy Prep, Pacific, Army, Maryland, Florida, and Illinois.
