Marina Mabrey of the Toronto Tempo has tied the WNBA record for most points scored in a single game, pouring in 53 points against the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday. The Tempo secured a decisive 125-97 victory in the matchup.

Mabrey's 53 points equal the highest single-game scoring totals previously achieved by A'Ja Wilson in 2023 and Liz Cambage in 2018. Her performance also included nine successful three-point shots, which matches the WNBA record for made threes in a single game.

This season, Mabrey has reached the milestone of scoring 18 or more points in a single quarter three times, with all instances occurring in June. No other player in WNBA history has recorded three quarters with at least 18 points in the same season.

Mabrey's final statistics for the game included 53 points, six rebounds, and two assists in 32 minutes of play. She shot 17-of-28 from the field, including 9-of-18 from three-point range, and made 10-of-12 free throws.

"To do it in the WNBA, it’s kind of like a dream come true," Mabrey stated after the game. "To have teammates that support me, just looking for me everywhere, want me to do my best, shoutout to them."

She added, "We came out ready to play. Our defense led to our offense. When we can get out into transition, I can get some space to do what I want to do."

The Toronto Tempo also set a new franchise record for points scored in a non-overtime game, defeating the Sparks 125-97.
