Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has stated the club aims to secure more senior transfer targets this month, citing the significant experience lost over the summer period. The departures of Bernardo Silva, John Stones, and Nathan Aké have collectively removed nearly 1,000 appearances from the squad, prompting Maresca's desire for seasoned additions.
The club is reportedly advancing in a deal to sign 16-year-old Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, a move that would supplement the earlier capture of Elliot Anderson. This comes as Maresca expressed awareness of the need for experienced players to maintain squad balance, particularly with Real Madrid reportedly pursuing Rodri, who is said to be open to a transfer.
Maresca noted the squad's general strength but acknowledged the impact of losing established figures. "Fortunately this is a squad that doesn’t need to do many things," Maresca said. "At the same time, as we already know the club lost important players in terms of experience like Bernardo, John and Nathan."
Manchester City has also been actively seeking reinforcements in other positions, with wingers and a right back having been identified as priorities. Maresca has shown interest in Chelsea's Malo Gusto, and Pedro Neto has also been linked with a move.
Director of football Hugo Viana is currently engaged in transfer negotiations, including dealing with Tottenham's interest in Savinho. The transfer of veteran goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli from Marseille is expected to be finalized following James Trafford's move to Leeds United.
"Hugo is here, also (chief executive) Ferran (Soriano) is here and we just try to speak day by day to see if we need to do something," Maresca commented on the ongoing transfer activity. "For sure, there are things that we need to do. We are in communication every day. The transfer window is open and when it’s open anything can happen."
Phil Foden, at 26, is now considered one of the club's senior players and has put himself forward for inclusion in the captaincy group. Foden wore the captain's armband during a recent friendly draw with Inter Milan in Hong Kong. Manchester City typically designates a four or five-person captaincy group, usually confirmed after the transfer window closes.
"I have to be really," Foden stated when asked about his leadership aspirations. "I’ve been at the club for so long, I’m one of the longest here. So this season I have to be one of the leaders, one of the captains. I’m looking forward to that new responsibility and trying to take leadership."
Meanwhile, Manchester City's friendly match against the K-League All Stars in South Korea is anticipated to proceed under a local government warning concerning excessive heat, with temperatures forecast to reach 38 degrees Celsius or higher.
