Manchester United has officially revealed its away kit for the 2026-27 season, a design that pays homage to the club's iconic 1988 third kit. The new jersey features a distinctive royal blue color with red and white stripes on the collar and sleeves, a combination that also featured on the club's 2005-06 away kit. A subtle waved design incorporated into the fabric is said to represent the River Irwell, symbolizing a connection between fans and the city of Manchester.

The club formally announced the kit on Wednesday, sharing images with the statement, "Always bold. Always brave. Always United." The release followed a period of anticipation after rapper Stormzy, a prominent Manchester United fan, appeared to debut the shirt while attending the World Cup final. Stormzy shared images of himself wearing the unreleased jersey on Instagram, captioning one post, "(Manchester United) you've seen it here first." The club acknowledged the 'leak' by sharing a picture of Stormzy in the kit with the message "spotted."

The new away kit will make its on-field debut on Friday during Manchester United's second pre-season friendly against Norwegian side Rosenborg. This match follows a recent 1-0 loss to Wrexham in Helsinki, which marked the first match for Michael Carrick as permanent manager. The game against Wrexham also provided a glimpse of new signing Andrey Santos, who recently completed a £50 million transfer from Chelsea.

With several key players still absent following the World Cup, Carrick utilized the Wrexham match to give opportunities to younger squad members. Among those featured or noted in training ahead of the Rosenborg match are emerging talents JJ Gabriel, 15, Ayden Heaven, and first-team player Patrick Dorgu. Gabriel, who had an impressive season with the under-18s and was named Premier League's Under-18 Player of the Year, is considered a particularly exciting prospect.
