Manchester United Striker Benjamin Sesko Out Until January With Shin Injury
The 23-year-old's absence is a significant blow to Michael Carrick's struggling side, which is currently 16th in the Premier League.
Manchester United's striker Benjamin Sesko is expected to be sidelined until at least January due to a recurring shin injury. The 23-year-old has been managing the issue since the beginning of the season, which has limited his playing time.
Sesko has not featured for the club since being substituted in the 66th minute of their Carabao Cup defeat against Brighton on September 16. The injury has now flared up again, casting a shadow over United's difficult run of form.
Since his £73.7 million transfer from RB Leipzig in August 2025, Sesko has made 38 appearances across all competitions, scoring 14 goals and providing one assist. This season, he has scored once in six appearances, finding the net against Everton in the Premier League.
His unavailability will impact crucial upcoming Premier League fixtures, including matches against Liverpool and Arsenal, as well as at least three Champions League games. Manchester United currently sits in 16th place in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone.
The team is set to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this weekend. Manager Michael Carrick recently held discussions with captain Bruno Fernandes following criticism from the midfielder regarding Carrick's tactics after a 4-1 Champions League loss to Como. Fernandes had expressed dissatisfaction with the team's pressing strategy, which he felt allowed opponents to gain confidence.
In response to tactical questions, Fernandes stated that such decisions were the responsibility of the manager and staff. Carrick subsequently dropped Fernandes to the bench for the match against Bournemouth, introducing four other substitutes before bringing on the teenager Shea Lacey. Following the game, some United supporters directed abuse at players, initially showing support for Carrick before turning their attention to the team.
Fernandes appeared to indirectly address the situation on Sunday night by liking an Instagram post that read: 'Never push a loyal person to the point where they no longer care.'
Meanwhile, there was positive news for United as Kobbie Mainoo resumed training with the squad on Wednesday, ahead of Fernandes' expected return to the starting lineup against Chelsea.
