New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers will begin training camp without being placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, a significant step in his recovery from a knee injury. This decision opens the possibility for Nabers to be available for the Giants' Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Nabers suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in his right knee during the Giants' Week 4 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers last season. He underwent surgery in late October and a subsequent cleanup procedure in the spring. His ability to avoid the PUP list means he won't be subject to a mandatory four-game absence at the start of the regular season if he were to remain on the list through training camp and the preseason.
During Nabers' rehabilitation, the Giants bolstered their wide receiver depth by re-signing Odell Beckham Jr. and signing veteran free agents Darnell Mooney, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Calvin Austin, and Braxton Berrios. The team also drafted Malachi Fields from Notre Dame in the third round of April's draft and acquired tight end Isaiah Likely.
Nabers, the Giants' first-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, recorded 18 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie season. In his collegiate career at LSU, he had 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns.
