Malaysia is slated to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix in October, filling the slot left vacant by the Bahrain Grand Prix, which was canceled earlier this season due to the conflict in the Middle East. The Sepang International Circuit, located near Kuala Lumpur and last featured on the F1 calendar in 2017, is expected to run the race as the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The event is anticipated to be officially announced in the coming days. While arranged by Formula 1, the race still requires formal sign-off from the governing body, the FIA. The decision to move the race follows the postponement of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix in April, which were initially scheduled for that month.
Formula 1 had hoped to reinstate the Bahrain race in October. However, with logistical deadlines approaching and no end in sight to the ongoing conflict, a decision was made to find an alternative venue. If confirmed, Malaysia's inclusion would create a schedule of three consecutive race weekends, with events in Azerbaijan, Malaysia, and Singapore.
