Bob MacIntyre is undeterred by his final-round performance at the Scottish Open and remains optimistic about his chances in the upcoming Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. MacIntyre, who started the storm-delayed finale at The Renaissance Club sharing the lead, experienced a mid-round slump after an opening birdie. He ultimately tied for third place alongside Matt Fitzpatrick, while Tom Kim secured the victory.
Despite the near miss, MacIntyre expressed confidence in his current form. "There’s no reason why I can’t compete and, hopefully, come Sunday, I can have a chance on the back nine and that’s all we play for," he stated. Reflecting on his round, he admitted frustration, noting, "I was going ballistic after 10 holes today, so to actually get it back under par was a good effort." He also felt his putting was not up to its usual standard throughout the week.
The result at the Scottish Open earned MacIntyre £320,000, bringing him closer to the FedEx Cup top 30, which determines playing privileges for the following season. "It’s a great week to go forward with. I’ve got to look at the positives. Everything’s seeming to come together, but yeah, just a few shots shy," he added.
