Alexis Mac Allister has stated he is "very sad" that Liverpool has not offered him a new contract, admitting there were opportunities for him to depart the club during the summer transfer window. The 27-year-old midfielder, who joined Liverpool in June 2023, has seen teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch sign new deals, a situation that has left him disappointed.

"As everyone knows, I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract which of course makes me very, very sad," Mac Allister said. "Because everyone can see I give 100 per cent for this football club every single day. In training and games. I can have good games, bad games, like everyone – but I always give my best."

He added, "I see Dominik and Ryan renew their contracts. That makes me very happy because they deserve it but also at the same time it makes me very sad I didn’t get mine."

Mac Allister, whose current contract has two seasons remaining including the current one, indicated that he was close to leaving Liverpool. "There was a chance," he stated. Despite his current contract situation, he assured fans of his continued commitment.

"Of course, there is still time, the fans don’t have to worry because I will give 100 per cent until my very last day I am here," he said. "We will see what happens. There were options to leave this summer but I think right now I am in the right club."

When asked about the possibility of the club altering its decision on a new contract, Mac Allister responded, "Maybe, I don’t know. It depends on how I perform during these years. Like every football player. And they (have a) right to make their decision as well."

He reiterated his dedication, saying, "But as I said, the fans do not need to worry because I am going to give my 100 per cent and hopefully or maybe they will change their minds."

Reflecting on his time at Anfield, Mac Allister highlighted his contributions, including winning a Premier League and Carabao Cup. "In my three years at the club, I have done very good things, we went through difficult times and won a Premier League and Carabao Cup. For me it has been a very successful period of my life, I don’t think I have to prove something but of course I need to show my level."

He expressed his affection for the club and the city, stating, "I love this club, I love being here, I love the fans, as a player it sometimes happens when you are at a club for a long, long time and you don’t realise where you are. That doesn’t happen to me, I know this is an amazing club and this city is very special. I love being here."

Mac Allister is expected to play when Liverpool faces Atletico Madrid in their Champions League debut on Wednesday evening. Head coach Andoni Iraola reportedly rates Mac Allister highly and stated that the most important factor is the player's desire to remain at the club.
