Luke Littler Eliminated in Darts Youth Championship Semifinals for Second Consecutive Year

World champion Luke Littler was eliminated in the semi-finals of the World Youth Championship for the second year in a row, losing 6-5 to Cam Crabtree. The 19-year-old, who has won consecutive senior world titles and earned significant prize money, participated in the youth tournament despite his established success. This decision has drawn scrutiny, with some questioning the value of his participation and the risk of undermining his reputation.

Littler's defeat came a year after he lost in the semi-finals to Beau Greaves. The winner of the youth championship receives £15,000, a sum considerably less than what Littler is accustomed to earning on the senior circuit. He advanced through the group stage and defeated Lewis Cook, David Fidler, Archie Self, and Harrison Leigh to reach the final four.

Following his exit, some social media users expressed critical reactions. Comments on X ranged from disappointment to suggestions that Littler needs to increase his practice regimen.

Last year, Littler defended his decision to compete in the youth event, stating he wanted to gain experience playing matches that extended to first to five and first to six legs. He noted that other tour card holders, such as Gian van Veen and Keane Barry, also participated.

The semi-final loss follows a recent first-round defeat to Luke Woodhouse in the Grand Prix. Sky Sports pundit Wayne Mardle has voiced skepticism about Littler's reasons for entering the youth championship, suggesting it might not be the best use of his time given his demanding schedule. Mardle commented that Littler appears to be underperforming currently, attributing it to the human element of having off days rather than any inherent flaw.

The final of the youth championship is scheduled to coincide with the Players' Championship final in late November. Littler is unlikely to qualify for the latter event, as he has opted out of most of the qualifying tournaments held throughout the year.
