Luka Doncic Met With Boos in Highly Anticipated Matchup Against Warriors
Golden State fans voiced their displeasure with the Lakers guard, stemming from an earlier verbal exchange.
Luka Doncic was met with a chorus of boos from Golden State Warriors fans during his first appearance at the Chase Center on Friday night. Chants of “Luka sucks” echoed through the arena less than a minute into the first quarter of the highly anticipated matchup.
The animosity toward Doncic from the Warriors faithful originated from the Lakers and Warriors' season opener on October 21. During that game, an on-court verbal exchange between Doncic and Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg led to Lendeborg receiving a technical foul. Following the game, Lendeborg stated he had lost all respect for Doncic, citing him as "whining and complaining."
Anticipation for the second encounter between Doncic and Lendeborg was amplified in the lead-up to Friday's game. Lendeborg made a notable entrance to the arena, appearing in a Michael Myers costume.
While Lendeborg's pre-game theatrics drew attention, Doncic focused on his performance on the court. His first basket of the game was a three-pointer directly in front of Lendeborg, giving the Lakers an early 5-0 lead. Los Angeles then extended their advantage with a 12-0 run before the Warriors called their first timeout.
By halftime, Doncic had scored 24 points. However, the Warriors managed to contain him in the second quarter, limiting his scoring. Golden State closed out the first half with a 10-0 run in the final two minutes, led by Steph Curry’s 14 points. The teams entered halftime tied at 53-53.
