Luka Dončić, now a Lakers teammate of Austin Reaves, playfully expressed that Reaves is hesitant to offer golf advice due to a fear of Dončić becoming the better golfer. Dončić made the remarks during an interview with the Golf Channel.

Since joining the Lakers in February 2025, Dončić and Reaves have developed a rapport characterized by mutual teasing. When asked about golfing tips from Reaves, Dončić quipped, “He’s afraid that I’m going to be better than him.”

Dončić shared that he took up golf after visiting Top Golf and that both Reaves and LeBron James have offered him guidance on the course. He noted that Reaves is a "plus two" golfer, describing him as "OK."

Despite the lighthearted jabs, Dončić confirmed that Reaves and James have been helpful in his golfing journey. He finds the sport to be both relaxing and addictive, admitting a desire to play 36 holes in a single day, which can take up to eight hours. Dončić also stated that patience is key in golf, finding the sport more challenging than basketball.

As the Lakers navigate an offseason that includes LeBron James' departure, Dončić is preparing to assume a more prominent role, aiming to lead the team to its 18th NBA championship. Reaves is also set to play a significant role, having recently signed a four-year, $185 million extension with the team.
