LSU has climbed into the top 10 of the Associated Press college football poll, reaching No. 8 after a decisive 51-10 victory over Clemson in coach Lane Kiffin's first game. The win propelled the Tigers into the top 10 for the first time since starting last season at 4-0.

Michigan, conversely, fell out of the Top 25 rankings entirely. The Wolverines narrowly defeated Western Michigan 13-12, requiring a last-second Hail Mary pass to secure the win. This marks the first time since at least 2008 that a team ranked as high as Michigan was dropped from the rankings after a victory.

Ohio State maintained its No. 1 position, receiving 46 of 69 first-place votes. The Buckeyes are set to face No. 4 Texas on Saturday. Defending national champion Indiana received the second-most No. 1 votes with eight, followed by LSU with five.

Oregon, which had been ranked No. 2, slipped to No. 6 after a 34-27 win over Boise State. Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas, and Indiana each moved up one spot in the poll. Miami, LSU, Mississippi, and Texas A&M completed the top 10.

LSU's rise pushed Oklahoma to No. 11. The Sooners shut out UTEP 51-0 and are scheduled to play Michigan next. Virginia entered the rankings at No. 25, their first appearance in a regular-season poll since 2005.

Kansas State also dropped out of the rankings after a close win against North Dakota. The first regular-season AP Top 25 poll of the season was released Tuesday, reflecting the results of the opening week of games.
