LSU Dominates Mississippi State to Stay Alive in Playoff Race

LSU kept its College Football Playoff hopes alive with a decisive 31-0 victory over No. 16 Mississippi State on Saturday at Tiger Stadium. The win was a crucial bounce-back performance for the Tigers after a tough overtime loss to Kentucky the previous week.

Mississippi State struggled offensively without star quarterback Kamario Taylor, who was sidelined due to a foot injury. Freshman Parker Puckett started in his place, completing 16 of 26 passes for 121 yards and throwing one interception. The Bulldogs found themselves playing from behind early as LSU capitalized on their opportunities.

LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt led the charge, connecting with wide receiver Jackson Harris for a 10-yard touchdown on their opening drive. Following an interception by Mississippi State, Leavitt found Harris again for a 27-yard touchdown pass, extending LSU's lead to 14-0 in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Leavitt threw his third touchdown pass of the game to Harris, making it 21-0. Mississippi State's offense managed to drive into the red zone later in the quarter, but failed to convert on fourth-and-goal from the LSU 6-yard line.

The Tigers continued their offensive momentum in the third quarter, adding 10 more points to extend their lead to 31-0. Leavitt finished the game with an impressive performance, completing 31 of 38 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns. Harris was a key target, recording six catches for 85 yards and two touchdowns.

Ty Benefield celebrates after intercepting a pass during an NCAA college football game.

With the victory, LSU improves to 5-2 on the season. To keep their College Football Playoff aspirations alive, the Tigers will need to win out for the remainder of their schedule. Their next game is on the road against Auburn.

Mississippi State falls to 4-2 with the loss and is set to face Oklahoma next Saturday.
