Los Angeles Rams Release Kicker Harrison Mevis After Overtime Loss

The Los Angeles Rams have released kicker Harrison Mevis following the team's overtime defeat to the Buffalo Bills, a game in which Mevis missed two critical field-goal attempts. His final miss in overtime was blocked by Bills defensive end Greg Rousseau, setting up Buffalo's game-winning score.

Rams coach Sean McVay expressed strong dissatisfaction with his special teams unit following the 37-34 loss. "The kicking game, with our PAT, field goal [unit] — not even close to good enough," McVay stated. "It cost us the game tonight.... I'm going to evaluate everything."

McVay acted on his assessment Tuesday by waiving Mevis, who has recorded three missed field goals this season, the most in the NFL. The coach also voiced regret over his decision to attempt a field goal from Buffalo's 30-yard line with 4:16 remaining in overtime, saying, "I wish I would have had a better play call and gone for it, got it tighter."

"I'm sick right now with myself, and I'm so proud of that group," McVay added. "This is the tough part of sports, but I'm proud of that team. I'm proud of the way we battled, and I'm sick that we came up short."
