Los Angeles Friends Turn SEC Football Trip into Four-Game Sports Odyssey
A group of retired friends from Los Angeles expanded their planned Alabama football weekend into a multi-day, cross-country sports adventure.
What began as a trip for a single college football game evolved into a whirlwind sports tour for six friends from Los Angeles, encompassing baseball and two professional football games over six days.
The group, who share a passion for the Los Angeles Dodgers, initially planned to travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to attend the Alabama-Georgia football game. However, their itinerary expanded significantly when they learned the Dodgers were playing the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS in Atlanta on the same day they were scheduled to arrive in the South.
"We decided, let's go to an awesome college game, cause we live where USC, UCLA and Oregon play," one friend explained. "But we wanna go to the SEC, Big Ten or something... This year we decided to do an Alabama game. We looked at this game three months ago and said 'let's do Alabama/Georgia, maybe they'll be top-ten teams.'"
Their revised plan involved flying into Atlanta, catching the Dodgers-Braves game, and then driving to Tuscaloosa for the Alabama game. Following the college football matchup, they intended to drive back to Atlanta for a Sunday night NFL game between the Falcons and the Baltimore Ravens. The friends, who are retired, aimed to experience premier sporting events and make lasting memories together.
This trip built upon a tradition of attending sporting events together. The previous year, the group traveled to Notre Dame for a game against USC, followed by a drive to Detroit for a Lions game, completing their college football and NFL crossover weekend.
"It was a pre-planned event, this trip down to Alabama," one member of the group, Gill, told OutKick. "Falo put it all together, and just by chance we just happened to be flying into Atlanta, coinciding with the day the Dodgers would be playing the Braves."
After securing tickets to the NLDS game, they proceeded with their original plan to attend the Alabama-Georgia game in Tuscaloosa. The group rented a house on Lake Tuscaloosa for their stay.
The expanded itinerary did not end there. The friends also planned to attend a Monday night NFL game back in Los Angeles between the Rams and the Bills, capping off their six-day sports marathon.
"We're playing golf, playing pickleball today (Thursday). Saturday we'll go to the Alabama-Georgia game, then Sunday morning the Falcons game, then Monday we're flying back to Los Angeles and we're gonna go straight over to SoFi Stadium to watch the Rams play the Bills," another friend detailed.
Despite the packed schedule, the friends expressed excitement for the atmosphere and the experience of attending major sporting events. They were particularly looking forward to the energy of the Alabama football game. As the trip unfolded, the friends humorously noted their new affinity for Alabama, adopting the chant "Roll Tide."
