San Francisco Giants pitcher Logan Webb deactivated his X account after a series of contentious interactions with critics on the platform. The incident occurred Wednesday night, following the Giants' 10-0 shutout loss to the Toronto Blue Jays at Oracle Park.
The pitcher's online activity began after KNBR's Jack Loder posted a video questioning the team's leadership and Webb's consistency as the ace.
"When someone is supposed to be your ace, you think that they're going to give you the best chance to win every week," Loder stated in his post. "Logan Webb had an awesome June, he was bad in April, he missed most of May. I've said over the years that he's been a great Giant, like I've really appreciated his Giants tenure. But there's always been a little bit lacking."
Webb responded directly to Loder, writing, "You know what's sad is they allow people like you in the locker room." He also engaged with other users and KNBR host Adam Copeland, whose question "Who are you?" was met with a dismissive response from Webb.
One exchange saw Webb ask a critical user, "Do you get paid by KNBR?" To another, he wrote, "Honestly you probably don't know anything about anything some loser on the couch that couldn't make his little league team."
The online confrontation followed a difficult outing for Webb on the mound. He allowed five runs in the first inning, including a grand slam. Although he pitched seven innings, the Giants' bullpen struggled, and the offense was limited to near no-hit conditions by Blue Jays pitcher Dylan Cease.
Webb is scheduled to participate in the upcoming All-Star Game. The social media activity is expected to be a topic of discussion during the event.
