Logan O'Hoppe, once considered one of baseball's top young catchers, described his tenure with the Los Angeles Angels as the "most painful four years of my baseball life." O'Hoppe, who was promoted to Double-A Rocket City in 2022 after just 29 games, was eventually traded to the Texas Rangers along with reliever Chase Silseth in exchange for shortstop prospect Angel Arredondo.

O'Hoppe began his time with the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate but was recently called up to the major leagues. He reflected on his previous club, where he spent parts of five seasons. Excitement had surrounded O'Hoppe after the Philadelphia Phillies traded him to Los Angeles for Brandon Marsh in 2022. At the time, he, along with shortstop Zach Neto and first baseman Nolan Schanuel, were viewed as future stars for the Angels.

However, O'Hoppe's struggles became apparent, particularly in his final two seasons with the Angels. He hit a total of nine home runs over his last 151 games. "I wasn’t very confident in what I was doing," O'Hoppe told reporters. "I wasn’t convicted in really anything I was doing on the field, but I knew that what I had done in the past was in there."

His defensive metrics as a catcher also declined, leading him to be considered the worst backstop in baseball by the end of his tenure with the Angels. O'Hoppe's experience with the Angels was marked by significant organizational instability, including four managers, five catching coaches, and numerous pitching coaches during his time with the team.

Upon being traded to the Rangers organization, O'Hoppe was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock. He expressed relief at this move, stating, "When I was told I got optioned, I was excited for it. I was actually more excited than if I just came over here. I would have felt more pressure if I just came over here feeling how I did."

O'Hoppe believes the Angels did not provide the proper development for him to succeed in the majors, and he hopes a change of scenery with the Rangers will be beneficial for his career.
