Liverpool Football Club has installed a permanent memorial at its Anfield stadium to honor Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who died tragically in a car accident on July 3, 2025. The tribute, named 'Forever 20' after Jota's shirt number, was unveiled on the eve of the first anniversary of their passing.
The memorial celebrates the lives of the brothers and the deep bond they shared. It features a flowing heart sculpture, designed by sculptor Emma Rodgers, which is inspired by Jota's signature goal celebration. From different angles, the sculpture reveals the numbers 20 for Jota and 30 for Andre Silva, who played for Portuguese side Penafiel. The lyrics of Jota's well-known chant are also inscribed on the memorial.
According to Liverpool FC, the sculpture incorporates personal tributes and mementos left at Anfield by fans, embedded within the artwork through a unique manufacturing process. The club stated that the memorial is intended to express the love and admiration felt for the brothers by their family, teammates, and supporters worldwide.
Located on 97 Avenue at Anfield, the site where many fans paid their respects following Jota's death, the memorial also includes a PlayStation controller on its plinth, acknowledging Jota's passion for gaming and his distinctive goal celebration. The club noted that the final touches include soft hues reflecting Jota's home country and the teams he supported throughout his career.
During the 2025-26 season, Liverpool supporters honored Jota by singing his name in the 20th minute of every match, and his No. 20 shirt was retired by the club. In parallel, Jota's memory has been kept alive internationally. At the recent World Cup, Portugal's manager Roberto Martinez named Jota an honorary squad member, with players wearing bracelets bearing his name. Jota's parents attended Portugal's opening World Cup match, where an image of their son was displayed during the national anthems.
Jota played 123 times for Liverpool, scoring 47 goals, and was part of the team that won the Premier League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup.
