Newcastle had taken the lead early in the second half through a goal from Callum Wilson, only for Liverpool to equalize through an own goal by defender Joelinton. The home side then appeared to have secured all three points when Alexander Isak scored in the 61st minute. However, Szoboszlai's penalty in the dying moments of the match ensured the points were shared.
