Liverpool's Lack of Depth Exposed in Man City Defeat

Liverpool's shortcomings in depth and the performance of some key signings were starkly exposed during their recent match against Manchester City. The team struggled to contain the attacking prowess of Jeremy Doku, Rayan Cherki, and Erling Haaland, ultimately succumbing to a defeat that highlighted concerns for manager Andoni Iraola.

This loss marked the first for Iraola since his arrival from Bournemouth, but it also brought to the fore issues that may have been brewing. Big-money acquisitions, including Florian Wirtz and Bradley Barcola, failed to consistently impact the game. Wirtz, in particular, was noted for making poor decisions with the ball in attacking areas, while Barcola's contributions since his move from Paris Saint-Germain have been largely underwhelming. Gravenberch, before his dismissal, delivered his best performance in some time, contributing to a balanced midfield alongside Alexis Mac Allister. Both midfielders posed threats with long-range shots.

The referee's decision to issue a red card was contentious, with questions raised about the officiating and the lack of VAR intervention on initial bookings. Even before the sending-off, however, Liverpool did not fully seize the initiative in the match.

Following Gravenberch's dismissal, Liverpool appeared unsettled and
