Liverpool is reportedly close to finalizing a season-long loan agreement for Barcelona's Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo. The deal is understood to include an option for Liverpool to purchase the player permanently.
Araujo, 27, has been a significant figure for Barcelona, contributing to three La Liga titles in the last four seasons and serving as club captain. Despite a contract running until 2031, his role in the team has shifted, with Gerard Martin and Pau Cubarsi now favored in central defense, leading to only 11 league starts last season.
Since joining Barcelona from Uruguayan club Boston River in 2018, Araujo has accumulated over 200 appearances for the Spanish club. Liverpool's pursuit of the defender comes as they seek to bolster their defense, particularly after the departure of Ibrahima Konate, who joined Real Madrid on a free transfer.
Araujo is expected to join the Liverpool squad this weekend if the transfer is completed.
