Liverpool Football Club has received an offer for a minority stake from a consortium led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia. If the deal proceeds, it could value the club at more than $4.5 billion. Bhatia, the son-in-law of Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, recently stepped down as co-owner of the Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

A spokesperson for Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), confirmed the interest. "An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club," the spokesperson stated.

The potential deal is not yet official and, if finalized, would follow a similar structure to a transaction from three years ago when FSG sold a small stake to the sports investment firm Dynasty.

Liverpool is currently in the United States for their pre-season tour. The team is scheduled to play Sunderland in Nashville on Saturday, followed by matches against Wrexham in New York and Leeds in Chicago. The tour concludes before the start of August.
