Liv Morgan successfully defended her Women's World Championship against Iyo Sky in the opening match of WWE SummerSlam on August 1, 2026, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The bout set a fast pace for the event, with both competitors exchanging momentum throughout.
Morgan, who had not had a title defense in some time and had previously lost to Sky in the Queen of the Ring finals, took an early advantage by attacking Sky outside the ring. However, Sky quickly turned the tide with a kick to the head and a missile dropkick, followed by a Bullet Train Attack. Sky then executed a sunset-flip powerbomb on Morgan to the mat outside the ring.
During a critical moment, members of The Judgment Day, Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez, interfered on Morgan's behalf, distracting the referee and aiding Morgan by tossing Sky from the top rope. Despite the interference, Morgan was unable to secure a pinfall. Sky subsequently eliminated Perez and Rodriguez with a moonsault to the ground.
Sky continued her offensive, hitting a double underhook faceplant and backbreaker, and even landed Morgan's Oblivion finisher. Morgan, however, kicked out. Sky followed up with a German suplex on the apron and another Bullet Train Attack, then attempted the Over the Moonsault, but Morgan moved, getting her knees up to block the move.
Morgan then delivered a sequence of her own offense, hitting one Oblivion, followed by a codebreaker, and then another Oblivion to secure the three-count and retain her championship.
The victory solidified Morgan's position as a top contender in WWE's women's division.
