LIV Golf plans to lay off the majority of its employees in the United States and the United Kingdom in the first week of September, Sportico reported. This significant staff reduction is part of a strategic shift as the league transitions to a new phase, referred to as LIV 2.0, following the conclusion of financial backing from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF).

A LIV Golf spokesperson stated that the organization is "scaling back operations as we transition to the next chapter of LIV Golf and work toward making LIV 2.0 a reality." The spokesperson also expressed gratitude to the employees for their contributions and commitment to supporting those affected during this transition.

The league reportedly filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice in July, signaling preparations for these layoffs. This development comes after a series of challenges for LIV Golf. However, reports indicate that the league has secured new financial backing.

The new investment is expected to provide approximately $250 million to $300 million for LIV 2.0. Recently, LIV Golf stars met with an individual identified as Ted Goldthorpe of BC Partners, who has not been officially named by LIV. LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil described the meeting positively, stating that the individual is a "visionary, charismatic, driven, well-connected leader, investor, businessman" who effectively conveyed his vision to players and management.

LIV Golf concluded its 2026 season prematurely this past weekend. The future schedule is planned to consist of 10 events. Despite reportedly losing more than $1.1 billion between 2022 and 2024, the league projects profitability within three years under the new structure.
