As the New York Liberty reach the midpoint of their regular season, their performance is tracking differently than in the previous year. Currently three games behind their pace at this time in 2025, the team (13-9) has overcome an initial 3-4 record to win 10 of their last 15 games. This current stretch does not include their Commissioner's Cup victory over the Las Vegas Aces.

Last season, the Liberty began with a strong 17-6 record but experienced a significant decline in the latter part of the season, ultimately failing to advance past the first round of the playoffs. This year's team, however, is exhibiting an upward trend as the season progresses. The Liberty rank fifth in defensive rating at 104.5 and fourth in offensive rating at 109.8, holding a NET rating of plus-5.1 per 100 possessions.

In comparison, at the same point last season, the Liberty were second in offense (106.9), third in defense (98.1), and second in NET rating (8.9), though these metrics eventually worsened. Forward Jonquel Jones, who was hampered by injuries last year, has returned to her All-Star form and is expected to participate in the July 25 showcase in Chicago alongside Breanna Stewart.

Several of the Liberty's nine losses this season have been by single digits, suggesting a tighter competitive balance than their record might indicate. Their remaining schedule is considered the ninth easiest of the 15 WNBA teams, according to Tankathon.com. The Liberty currently sit fifth in the league standings, but are only 2.5 games away from second place.

Several players' statuses are uncertain heading into Saturday's game against the league-leading Minnesota Lynx. Coach Chris DeMarco reported that rookie Pauline Astier and reserve Rebecca Allen exited the team's recent loss to the Dallas Wings with apparent injuries. Astier appeared to injure her ankle in the fourth quarter, while Allen sustained an injury after being elbowed in the nose. Leonie Fiebich also missed the Wings game due to left foot soreness that recurred after a previous game. Fiebich underwent an MRI, but the results have not been disclosed publicly.
