Lewis Hamilton Believes He's Uniquely Positioned in Formula 1, Eyes Mid-40s Racing
The seven-time world champion expressed confidence in his enduring abilities and reiterated his ambition to race until Formula 1 returns to Africa.
Lewis Hamilton has stated that he is unlike any driver Formula 1 has previously seen and indicated a strong desire to continue racing into his mid-forties. The seven-time world champion recently shared his aspiration to compete in the sport in Africa, a continent he has actively advocated for a Grand Prix on for many years. Formula 1 has confirmed a 10-year agreement with Rwanda for a race to commence in the early 2030s, marking the first Grand Prix on the African continent since 1993.
Hamilton, currently 41, will be at least 45 when this African race is scheduled to take place. He commented during a press conference prior to the Mexico Grand Prix that he considers himself a unique case in the sport's history. "F1 has never had anyone like me in the 70 years of its existence," Hamilton said, adding that he feels he is "built differently."
He acknowledged the potential challenges associated with age, such as anticipated declines in reaction time. However, he countered by pointing to his recent performance, noting, "Did you see my reaction time in the last race? It was faster than some of the youngest people here."
Hamilton affirmed his commitment, stating, "As long as you are willing to sacrifice everything, which I am right now – I can't say in four years whether I will want to continue doing what I'm doing – but I am still all in. I will be for the foreseeable future."
