Philadelphia Eagles star right tackle Lane Johnson indicated that the 2026 NFL season might mark the end of his professional football career. Johnson, 36, shared his perspective during a press conference on Saturday morning, explaining that personal priorities are increasingly influencing his decisions.
"As you get older, things change in your life. Your children get older. Your parents get older. Just to put this thing into perspective, it's looking like this is probably potentially going to be my last year," Johnson said. "Just because I am getting to that point of those priorities away from football are starting to merge. Not that I don't enjoy this [football]. I love everything about this game and preparing for it, but that's kind of where I'm at in my career."
Johnson is entering his 14th NFL season, all of which have been with the Eagles since being drafted in 2013. He has been a key figure on the offensive line, contributing to the team's Super Bowl victories in 2017 and 2024. A six-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro selection, Johnson has been a consistent presence at right tackle.
His 2025 season was cut short after 10 games due to a foot injury. In the games he played, Pro Football Focus data shows he ranked ninth among offensive tackles in pass blocking grade (80.4) and 18th in overall grade (77.4), allowing no sacks or hits. His run blocking grade for that season was 69.8.
The projected starting offensive line for the Eagles for the upcoming season includes Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, Tyler Steen, and Johnson.
Johnson is under contract with the Eagles through 2027. He has played 168 games for the franchise, placing him ninth in team history. If he plays all 17 regular-season games this year, he would move into fifth place on that list.
