Every major tournament introduces a wave of young talent, and the 2026 World Cup is no exception. While players like Ivory Coast's Yan Diaomande, Mexico's Gilberto Mora, and Morocco's Ayyoub Bouaddi are making their mark, Spain's Lamine Yamal, who turned 19 during the tournament, has also dominated headlines.
However, it is Yamal's three-year-old brother, Keyne, who has become an unexpected sensation off the pitch. Spanish publication Hola! described Keyne as "the biggest sensation of the competition," noting his "hilarious moments" that have taken the tournament by storm.
Keyne has rapidly become an internet phenomenon, melting hearts with his appearances during Spain's run to the semi-finals. His popularity surged after Spain's quarter-final victory when television cameras captured him waving and smiling at his brother from the stands. Yamal, on the pitch, was seen bursting into laughter after spotting Keyne sticking out his tongue on the stadium's giant screens.
Images and videos of Keyne's antics quickly circulated on social media, leading to him being dubbed "the star of the 2026 World Cup" and "Spain's superstar in the stands." Following the quarter-final win, Yamal shared that Keyne had playfully warned him of his plan. "I was at physio and he called me, using my mum’s phone, and told me that he was going to stick his tongue out tomorrow," Yamal recounted. "So that’s why when I saw him on the screen, it really made me laugh."
Born in September 2022, Keyne is the son of Yamal's mother, Sheila Ebana. Despite not sharing the same father, Yamal expressed deep affection for his half-brother. "My little brother means everything to me. I am in love with him; it feels like he is my son," Yamal said after being named player of the match in a previous game.
Keyne's presence is not new to those who follow Yamal closely. The footballer frequently shares videos of them dancing on TikTok, and clips of them playing with a football during Barcelona's La Liga title celebrations also went viral. Keyne has been seen singing the Barcelona anthem, cheering for his brother, and interacting with the team mascot. He has also been spotted with Yamal's teammate Nico Williams.
Yamal has spoken about his desire to provide Keyne with the childhood he did not have. Growing up in Rocafonda, a deprived neighborhood in Catalonia, Yamal's family faced significant hardship. He has referenced his past struggles, noting that his mother had him at 16 and his father worked on the streets to provide. Yamal's famous '304' celebration, a nod to his neighborhood's postcode, has become a symbol of his roots. "I see my mother happy, I see that my brother can have the kind of childhood I would have wanted, and that’s what makes me happiest," he has said.
Keyne also makes appearances on his mother's social media, including sponsored posts. As Spain continues its World Cup campaign, Keyne Yamal seems poised to remain a central figure in any potential celebrations.
