Lamar Jackson Sidelined with Ankle Injury, Ravens' QB Facing Multiple Games Out
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson suffered a sprained ankle during Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans and could miss significant playing time.
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson sustained an ankle injury late in the second quarter of Sunday's victory over the Tennessee Titans, an injury that NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports could cause him to miss multiple games.
Jackson was seen wearing a walking boot after the game, and Rapoport indicated that the quarterback has a sprained ankle with only an "outside chance" of playing in the upcoming Sunday Night Football matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. The injury is not considered "long-term or surgical," but its severity may force him to miss subsequent games against the Cleveland Browns on October 18 and the Cincinnati Bengals on October 25.
Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley replaced Jackson and guided the Ravens to a win against the winless Titans. Head coach Jesse Minter stated on Monday that the team was still gathering information, including imaging results, to determine Jackson's status.
"I don't know the chances yet," Minter said. "We're still gathering a lot of the information, imaging, things like that. Just dealing with a little bit of an ankle. We'll kind of see where that shakes out."
Before his injury, Jackson had a strong performance, completing 15 of 20 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns. This incident follows a week where Jackson was limited in practice due to a minor back issue, which Minter had downplayed.
Jackson's injury history has previously seen him miss extended periods. He was sidelined for the final four games of the 2021 season with a low ankle sprain and missed the final five regular-season games and a playoff game in 2022 due to a PCL sprain in his left knee. During that 2022 injury, Jackson stated he prioritizes being 100% healthy before returning to play, calling it "selfish" to play otherwise.
