Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey and his wife, Sydney, announced Sunday they are expecting their first child, with the baby due in 2027. The couple shared the news via a joint Instagram post, which included photos of them holding an ultrasound image.
The announcement marks a new milestone for the couple, whose relationship began before McConkey's NFL career. They first met as children through AAU basketball teams and reconnected in high school in Georgia in 2017. McConkey stated he knew Sydney was "the one" during their high school years.
Sydney remained a consistent presence throughout McConkey's time at North Murray High School, the University of Georgia, and his transition to the NFL. He proposed in July 2024, shortly after joining the Chargers, and they were married on April 12, 2025. Their wedding guests included former Georgia teammates Stetson Bennett and Brock Bowers.
The couple currently resides in Southern California, where Sydney works in education and as a Pilates instructor. McConkey attributed their strong relationship to "communication, trust" and their ability to share laughter.
