Kyle Palmieri Details ACL Rehab Journey, Focus on Optimal Recovery

Islanders forward Kyle Palmieri described a unique sensation in his left knee, a decade after tearing his ACL, as an “achy soreness” that signifies the ongoing healing process.

Palmieri, who has returned to play two regular-season games, spoke about the challenges of recovery approximately 10 months after the injury. He acknowledged that while the external appearance of his play might not show significant changes, the physical and mental aspects of his return are a continuous journey. He drew a parallel to teammate Anders Lee, who also experienced an ACL tear and spoke of months passing before feeling fully confident in his return.

"Not to say that you accept what the new reality might feel like, cause I know it’s still healing," Palmieri told The Post. "But I think where I kind of find the confidence to push myself back towards getting back to my game really just comes from the process that I went through."

Palmieri emphasized his dedication to the rehabilitation process, stating that he did not attempt to rush or accelerate his recovery. "I just gave, every day, my best effort. I think I put everything I could into the rehab," he said. "Now I know it’s still part of the process of healing, but I think I’m really confident in the fact that I put myself — or at least tried to put myself — into the best position possible."
