Brexton Busch, the 11-year-old son of the late NASCAR icon Kyle Busch, achieved his first race victory on Friday evening since his father's passing. The young racer competed in multiple divisions at Oklahoma's Port City Raceway, securing a win in the restricted micro sprint class.
Kyle Busch's widow, Samantha, shared the emotional moment on social media, posting a photo of Brexton on the winner's podium. "There was a lot of emotions to say the very least," she wrote. "Beyond proud of him, not just for winning but all that he's navigating at a young age."
Samantha also expressed her grief, stating she was "beyond shattered Kyle isn't here to be a part of this," but conveyed gratitude for the support system surrounding them. She revealed that Brexton raced using his father's former car, sharing footage of him crossing the finish line.
This victory comes after Brexton's return to racing just two weeks following his father's death. Kyle Busch, 41, died on May 21 after falling unresponsive during a race simulator session near Charlotte, North Carolina. His death was later attributed to pneumonia that led to sepsis, causing blood clots and organ impairment.
Earlier in June, Samantha had shared an emotional message on Father's Day, the first celebrated without her husband. She reflected on the difficulty of navigating holidays and the absence of Kyle's presence in their children's lives. "Our bodies hurt from missing you, from reaching for someone who isn't there, from loving someone we can't hold anymore," she wrote. She vowed to continue sharing Kyle's stories and ensuring their children, Brexton and Lennix, always know how deeply they were loved by their father.
