Kristaps Porzingis to Miss Warriors Training Camp With Health Issue
Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. announced Monday that center Kristaps Porzingis will be out indefinitely with a "health issue" and will not participate in the team's upcoming training camp.
Kristaps Porzingis will miss the Golden State Warriors' training camp in Hawaii due to an unspecified "health issue," general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. announced Monday. The 7-foot-4 center is out indefinitely and will not travel with the team, which is set to begin camp on Tuesday.
"I’m not marking him down as being out to start the season or anything like that," Dunleavy said during the team's media day. "He’s just not available this week. … Disappointed that he won’t be out there tomorrow, but it’s early, so don’t want to overreact to anything."
Dunleavy stated that Porzingis was medically cleared and participating in workouts as recently as last week. He was informed of the center's current health concern on Sunday.
Porzingis, 31, has a history of availability issues. He was limited to 15 games last season after being acquired from the Atlanta Hawks, and he was diagnosed with POTS, a rare nervous system condition, which has caused him to miss playing time over the past two seasons. Dunleavy could not confirm if POTS is the cause of his current absence.
Despite Porzingis' absence, two other Warriors players, Jimmy Butler III and Moses Moody, are progressing in their injury recoveries. Butler is recovering from Achilles surgery, and Moody is dealing with patellar tendon surgery. Both players have begun light on-court activities and are expected to join the team for training camp.
Last season, Porzingis averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks in 23.7 minutes per game for the Warriors. He finished the season healthy, appearing in the team's play-in tournament loss.
