Kristaps Porzingis Ruled Out Indefinitely by Warriors With Unspecified Health Issue

The Golden State Warriors will begin their training camp without starting center Kristaps Porzingis, who has been ruled out indefinitely due to an unspecified health issue. General manager Mike Dunleavy announced the decision on Monday during the team's media day, confirming that Porzingis will not be available to start training camp.

"He's just not available this week," Dunleavy stated, according to ESPN. "Disappointed that he won't be out there tomorrow, but it's early, so don't want to overreact to anything." The Warriors were scheduled to travel to Hawaii on Monday afternoon for the start of their training camp and were set to play their preseason opener against the Los Angeles Clippers in Honolulu on Sunday.

Porzingis's recent history includes significant time missed due to various health concerns. He was sidelined by a prolonged upper respiratory viral illness in late February 2025 while with the Boston Celtics, a condition he described on social media as a viral illness that had not been fully identified. He also missed 10 of his first 11 games with the Warriors after being acquired from the Atlanta Hawks at the trade deadline in February 2026. Despite these setbacks, he played in 16 of the final 21 games of the 2025-26 season.

Porzingis signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the Warriors this summer, though only $3 million is guaranteed in the second year. He averaged 16.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in 24 minutes per game over 32 contests last season.

Head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged the unexpected nature of Porzingis's absence. "It was surprising," Kerr said. "This is all part of the season. The health of the team, things happen. So you just roll with it and keep moving forward. We don't really know what it means. I don't have a whole lot of information for you. We fully expect him to be with us at some point."

The Warriors will also be without Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody at the start of the season due to ongoing rehabilitation from serious knee injuries. Dunleavy expressed concern over having multiple key rotation players unavailable but indicated confidence in the team's roster depth.
