Barbora Krejcikova, a two-time Grand Slam champion, was defeated by Kamilla Rakhimova in the first round of the U.S. Open on Sunday. Krejcikova's loss makes her the first seeded player to be eliminated from the tournament.

Rakhimova, representing Russia and Uzbekistan, won the match 7-6 (4), 6-2 on Court 17. This early exit marks a disappointing Grand Slam season for the No. 27-seeded Czech, who has now lost in the first round in three of her last four major tournaments.

Rakhimova is set to play the winner of the match between Aoi Ito of Japan and Oksana Selekhmeteva of Spain.

In other U.S. Open news, American player Tommy Paul, who recently married his longtime girlfriend Paige Lorenze in July, discussed marriage advice after his first-round victory over Coleman Wong. "Just give her what she wants. Give her what she wants," Paul said when asked for his advice. Paul and Lorenze have been dating since 2022, and a photo of them celebrating his Queen's Club Championships win went viral two years prior.
